When viewing emails in Outlook, embedded images do display. Instead a square and a red X are seen.
The first thing to know is that embedded images are not contained in the email – they are being loaded from a website and the email is being displayed using HTML which is loaded using Internet Explorer.
This is important to know because if the images are not available (deleted, moved, broken link or you are not connected to the Internet) – they will not display.
If you know the images are loading, for example in the “web version” of the email – the solution is usually to reset Internet Explorer.
This is done by:
- In the Start menu type “internet options” and click on it when it appears in the list of found programs
- Open the ‘Advanced’ tab
- Click on the ‘Reset’ button
- Click on the ‘Reset’ button and follow the prompts (no need to delete personal settings).
