So you’ve been given a drop box url and you want to download the file, but it opens in your browser and there’s no option to download?
Here’s a quick and easy way to take that url and turn it into a downloadable link.
In this example we’ll use two links,
- PDF file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/egr855qo0mm32pl/Getting%20Started.pdf
- Video file: https://www.dropbox.com/s/oayyrwyd157qiwx/test.mp4
Take the url and replace www with dl and add ?dl=1 to the end. This will give you
- PDF file: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/egr855qo0mm32pl/Getting%20Started.pdf?dl=1
- Video file: https://dl.dropbox.com/s/oayyrwyd157qiwx/test.mp4?dl=1
Now instead of the file opening from dropbox it will prompt to download/save the file.
Please note: most browsers by default open a PDF file inside the browser. If this happens you need to use the browsers File -> Save as options to save the file. This will only work using the download link.
